The Continetal Sport Contact 5 SSR is the latest ultra high performance tyre from Continental. Developed and tested in conjunction with our OE partners the ContiSportContact 5 P combines maximum safety and driving pleasure.

Sport Contact 5 SSR features a flexible ‘macro-block’ design which increases the contact area and interaction with the road surface. This results in superb grip and stability when cornering. ‘Black Chilli Technology’ combines the use of grip resins and high structured racing carbon black to achieve short braking distances and excellent stability.

A 0° hybrid cap ply achieves circumferential stiffness and radial flexibility, resulting in excellent steering precision and increased grip and stability when cornering

1. The SSR system is a runflat technology developed by Continental especially for low section tires, which still keeps the tires compatible with all standard rims.
2. The SSR principle is based on a self-supporting reinforced sidewall.
3. In case of a puncture, this prevents the sidewall from being crushed between the rim and the road, and the tire from slipping off the rim, which makes a spare tire obsolete. Not having to carry a spare tire means a reduction in weight, which improves fuel efficiency.
4. It also adds up to 80 litres of free space in the trunk. Fitting on four positions is highly recommended if not yet mandatory by law and a tire repair is not allowed.

1. How does self-supporting run-flat tire technology work?
A specially designed reinforced sidewall supports the tire in the event of a puncture and loss of air. This prevents the sidewall from being crushed between the rim and the road, and the tire from slipping off the rim.

2. How do I drive with self-supporting run-flat tires?
The technology has no impact on the driving experience or the handling of your car under normal circumstances. You must, however, have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is recommended.

3. How should I act after a self-supporting run-flat tire is punctured?
You can continue driving for 80 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h after a tire is punctured. It isn‘t necessary to stop for a tire change or call roadside assistance, but you should have the tire checked by a specialist as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

4. How can I find tires with self-supporting run-flat technology?
The technology was developed especially for low section tires, which are compatible with all standard rims. They are mounted, changed and used like any standard equipment tires.
