Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar:
Mahindra Thar is currently the best selling car in the off road SUV segment in the country. Earlier this car used to come only in 4WD version, but recently a RWD version has also been launched in the country. Now Maruti’s 5 door Jimny is about to be launched in the market to compete with this vehicle. Maruti Suzuki has already started its booking page for this car. Dimension comparison
The Mahindra Thar measures 3,985mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,855mm in height. It gets a wheelbase of 2,450mm and ground clearance of 226mm. On the other hand, talking about Ejimni, its length is 3,985mm, width 1,645mm and height is 1,720mm and its wheelbase is 2,590mm and ground clearance is 210mm. Both these SUVs are based on the ladder frame chassis. The approach angle in Mahindra Thar is 41.2 degrees, the departure angle is 36 degrees and the ramp-over angle is 26.2 degrees. While the Jimny has an approach angle of 36 degrees, a departure angle of 50 degrees and a ramp-over angle of 24 degrees, the Thar gets 16-inch and 18-inch wheels, depending on the variant. While 15-inch alloy wheels have been given in Jimny.
Engine Comparison
The Thar gets a choice of three engines, including a 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel (117bhp/300Nm) engine, a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel (130bhp/300Nm) and a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol (150bhp/320Nm) ) Engine option available. While the Jimny is powered by the sole 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine (103bhp / 134Nm).
Transmission Comparison
In terms of transmission, the Thar gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed MT, while the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines get the option of a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. The Jimny, on the other hand, will get the 1.5-litre petrol engine on the outside with a choice of 5-speed MT or 4-speed AT.
Drive System
The Thar now gets the option of RWD along with the 4WD system. Whereas in Maruti Jimny, 4WD system has been given with All Grip System.

Price comparison
The ex-showroom price of Mahindra Thar ranges between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 6.49 lakh. On the other hand, the price of Jimny has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be between Rs. 9 lakh to Rs. 13 lakh.
